Creating Clipping Planes
Add a Clip Plane
Clip planes are used to clip objects in the View and create for example section Views.
There can be up to 8 clip planes at the same time in the view.
Clip planes can be placed along an object face or edge line.
When creating a clip plane by snapping to an edge line, the clip plane is created in the plane perpendicular to it.
To add a clip plane
Load a model in the Trimble Connect for Windows 3D Viewer.
On the toolbar, click Add Clip Plane.
Place the clip plane along the axis that you want to use to slice the model.
The clip plane icon appears on the clip plane.
Use Clip Planes to Create Elevation Measurements
Objects clipped points and edges can now be used as picking points and edges for measurement creation.
When the clip plane is removed, the associated measurements are removed too.
Other measurements existing in the view are untouched.
Measurements cannot be created between clipped points or edges and non-clipped points, edges or surfaces.
Add a Vertical Clip Plane
The Vertical Clip Plane tool can be used to force the direction of a clip plane to always be vertical.
To add a vertical clip plane
Load a model in the Trimble Connect for Windows 3D Viewer.
On the toolbar, open the Clip Plane Menu.
Activate the Vertical Clip Plane tool.
Place the clip plane along the axis that you want to use to slice the model.
The clip plane icon appears on the clip plane.
Clip on a Path
Advanced clip planes can be created by using wires as input. When creating a clip plane on a wire, it can then be moved along the wire. This feature works for both normal and vertical clip planes.
To clip along a path
Load a model in the Trimble Connect for Windows 3D Viewer.
To start, select the wire (it will highlight in purple) that you want to clip along.
Isolate the wire by clicking Show Only on the toolbar.
On the toolbar, activate the Clip plane tool you want to use.
Place the clip plane on the wire.
The clip plane icon appears on the clip plane.
You can now move the clip plane along the wire.
